Biography

Dr. Harding Keith McDowell was born in High Point and graduated from High Point High School in 1962.  He received a General Motors Scholarship to attend Wake Forest University and received his B. S. degree in chemistry in 1966.  Having graduated magna cum laude, Keith attended graduate school at Harvard University under a National Science Foundation Traineeship and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics in 1972.  Following post-doctoral work at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Keith married Janet Stallings and assumed a position on the staff at Clemson University.  Keith moved in 1984 to Los Alamos, New Mexico to work in the government labs. In 1991, Keith and his family moved to Arlington, Texas where Keith served The University of Arlington as an Administrator for Research and various other university functions. In 2002, Keith and his wife moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as a Vice President for Research at the University of Alabama. Just recently, Keith McDowell was named vice chancellor for research and technology for The University of Texas System effective June 1, 2007.

Keith and his wife Janet now reside in Austin, Texas where their two sons also live.
